Analytics events
Last updated: 6 November 2026
This is the full list of usage events the MoneyShip app sends to its analytics provider, PostHog (EU Cloud, Frankfurt), while analytics is on. Our privacy policy links here, and we update this page whenever an event is added, removed or changed. MoneyShip was previously called Tally.
What we collect
Usage events that describe how people use MoneyShip: which screens they open, which features they use and where they stop in a flow. We use them to decide what to build next and what to improve.
What we never collect
- The names of your bills, debts or savings goals
- Amounts, balances, totals or any money figure
- Account numbers, sort codes or card numbers
- Your email address, phone number or name
- Anything you type into the app
- Your phone's advertising ID or hardware identifiers
- Which free debt-advice service you open
If you spot anything below that breaks these rules, that's a bug: please email moneyshipapp@gmail.com and we'll fix it.
Turning it off
In the app, open Settings and turn off Share usage analytics, at any time. While it's off, the app doesn't start the analytics software at all, so it sends nothing to PostHog. To delete events already collected, email moneyshipapp@gmail.com from the address linked to your MoneyShip account.
How events are linked
- A random ID: on first launch the app creates a random ID and keeps it in your phone's secure storage (the iPhone's Keychain, Android's encrypted storage). Events carry it. It isn't your email, your name or your phone's advertising ID.
- If you sign in: the random ID is linked to your MoneyShip account ID, a random code, never your email address, so one person on two phones counts as one.
- If you sign out: new events carry the random ID again and aren't linked to your account until you sign in.
- If you delete your data (Delete Account & All Data, or Clear Local Data): the app forgets the random ID and makes a new one, so nothing sent afterwards is linked to the deleted data or your account.
How long we keep them
12 months, then they're deleted automatically.
Details on every event
The app adds these to every event:
| Detail | What it is |
|---|---|
platform | iPhone or Android |
app_version | The app's version, for example 1.0 |
distribution | Where the app came from: the App Store, TestFlight, Google Play, or a test build. It lets us leave testers out of the numbers |
The analytics software also adds basic details about your phone and the app by itself, such as the phone's model, operating system, language and time zone. Section 5 of the privacy policy lists them all.
